- LACOMBE GLOBE
Mr. William 'Bill' McGeachy of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on November 28, 1998 at the age of 80 years.
Bill was born on May 17, 1918 in Campbeltown, Scotland, the eighth child of Duncan and Mary McGeachy. He immigrated to Canada with his parents in March, 1927, at the age of eight years. Bill was a member of the Calgary Tank Corps and served his country in many parts of the world. He was united in marriage to Elsie Brown in 1946. Together with his brother-in-law, Elmer Brown, Bill owned and operated Rimbey Safety Service Shell Station and Bulk Dealership for 27 years. He loved his sports, but he especially loved his involvement with the Rimbey Lions Club and Lions International. Bill was a truly devoted Lions member, serving 44 years in perfect attendance.
Bill's greatest joy was his family; and being special 'Uncle Bill' to many. He teased, consoled, listened, scolded and was always there for those who needed him.
'He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him'
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife Elsie; and one daughter, Paddy Lynn McGeachy of Rimbey. He will also be lovingly remembered by two sisters, Flora Dewar of Vancouver, B.C. and Margaret Proudfoot of Rimbey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and close friends. Bill was predeceased by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held at the Rimbey United Church, Rimbey, Alberta on Saturday, December 5, 1998 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Glen Simmons officiating. Cremation.
