      Death of a Nonagenarian
The death of Mr Archibald Mathieson, Glenahanty, which occurred on the 2nd inst., is worthy of more than passing notices, not only because of the venerable age to which he had attained, but also on account of the fact that he was the representative of a Kintyre family that can retrace its descend farther back than most, and that has farmed the one spot for no less a period than five centuries. Deceased, who by the way always favoured the old rendering of the name Mathieson ie M'Math, was in his 91st year, and his passing removes from the district one of its oldest agriculturists, and one known and respected over a wide area of the peninsula. For 500 years deceased and his forebears have been tenants of Glenahanty, which is on the Ugadale estate, an extraordinary record it will be admitted, and one that can have few equals in the country. Deceased paid rent to three generations of the Macneals of Ugadale, viz, the late Mr George Macneal, then the late Captain Macneal, and the present laird, Captain Hector Macneal. In the year 1906 the present laird took the farm into his own hands, but his venerable tenant remained in possession of the house, and the Captain, with characteristic goodheartedness, granted the old man an annual pension. It was a deed worthy of the best traditions of a Highland chieftain. Deceased is survived by a sister and nephew, who resided with him. The remains were interred to-day (Friday) in the ancient burial ground of Keil-Colm Keil.
